Biography

Manfred Bleffert

The work of Manfred Bleffert is known in the States through the delicate tones of his gongs, glockenspiels, cymbals and other percussion instruments. For the last thirty years, Manfred Bleffert has been working throughout Europe as a composer, musician, painter and sculptor.

Manfred Bleffert was born in 1950 in Altenahr, Germany. Since he was a child, Manfred has been studying music. In his teens, he began composing new music and developing instruments and sound sources to support his compositions. Manfred entered the field of new music in Europe through personal contact with composers such as John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Olivier Messiaen. He continued to study music throughout Europe while developing an original approach to the phenomenology of music and sound, composition, notation and instrument building.

In 1978, Manfred came into contact with the work of Rudolf Steiner. Steiner's work had a profound influence on Bleffert. Since that time, Bleffert has dedicated his efforts to developing an approach to music and art that leads to a deeper understanding of the connection between the human being and the cosmos.

Out of his intimate study of sound and music, Manfred began to work though the arts of painting and sculpting. He continued to take the outer phenomena of the world and the inner phenomena of the human being as his artistic subjects.

In 2008, Manfred will travel to the United Sates for the first time in his life. The unique work he has been offering in Europe for decades will now be accessible in the States.
